Police arrested two men at an N7 roadblock after picking up a strong smell of dagga.
According to mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, Metro officers sniffed out the dagga while speaking to a motorist at the roadblock on Tuesday May 19.
“K9 Savage was brought in and when he reacted positively, officers searched the vehicle and found a leather bag containing eight packets of Chicago cigarettes and 36 bankies dagga. Two men, aged 20 and 28, were arrested for being in possession of drugs and illicit cigarettes and were detained at Milnerton police station,” said Mr Smith.
“The lockdown isn’t a picnic for anyone, but the regulations are there to save lives. Our officers continue to enforce all the laws and those who are involved in illegal activity should think twice, as they will get caught,” he said.
Of the 29 665 fines issued last week, 1 465 were for lockdown violations, he said.
