Animation festival comes to town

The Highway Rat will be screened at the Cape Town International Animation Festival.

The seventh Cape Town International Animation Festival will take place from Friday March 2 to Sunday March 4 at the River Club in Observatory.

The festival is being hosted by NPO Animation SA, which aims to promote South African animation and create a self-sustaining industry that can create jobs.

It presents the best of local and international films by award-winning animators, as well as providing a platform to engage with industry leaders in a series of workshops, talks and panel discussions.

There will be live drawing classes, business-to-business sessions, producer events, networking opportunities and government panel discussions in addition to student competitions and an outreach programme.

“We have a stellar line up of speakers, featuring some of the best creative and business minds in animation, screenings of the world’s top animated films and a range of free events that are fun for the whole family,” says festival director, Dianne Makings.
