The Birdcage is coming to the Milnerton Playhouse.
It is based on the 1996 film of the same name – starring Robin Williams, Gene Hackman, Nathan Lane and Calista Flockhart – which was, itself, a remake of the French farce, La Cage aux Folles.
Produced by Constantiaberg Players, the play is directed by Barrie Howard.
The Birdcage is about Armand (Mark Wilkes) and Albert (David Waugh) who have built a perfect life for themselves, often visiting their favourite drag club in Miami.
Things take an unexpected turn when Armand’s son announces he is going to get married to the daughter of the conservative Senator Keeley, and they are all set to meet for dinner.
Armand and Albert have to try to impress Senator Keeley if his daughter is to marry into the family, and they get their flamboyant housekeeper, Agador, to play the role of their butler for the evening. The show will run at the Milnerton Playhouse from Friday February 16 to Saturday February 24. There will be evening shows on February 16, 17, 23 and 24, at 8pm, and 2.30pm matinées on February 17 and 24. Tickets are R80 to R90.
