Cape Town City Ballet will present Veronica Paeper’s Cinderella for a limited season from Saturday February 4 to Sunday February 19 at the Artscape Opera House.

International guest artists will perform at select performances, with some performances also accompanied by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.

The story is the classic fairytale of the sweet-tempered Cinderella, a young woman with a heart of gold who is left in the care of her two evil step-sisters, Violet and Daffodil.

Relegated to the role of a kitchen maid in her own home, she scrubs and cleans all day dressed in rags. The Prince who lives in the castle across town, decides to hold a magnificent ball in search of the perfect bride, and sends invitations out far and wide – but Cinderella is unable to attend the ball.

Then magic happens…. a Fairy Godmother appears and Cinderella goes to the ball in a beautiful ball gown and a fantastical carriage. The twist in the story is that she must promise to return home by midnight when the carriage will turn back into a pumpkin.

Choreography is by Veronica Paeper, costume and décor design by Peter Cazalet and lighting design by Wilhelm Disbergen.

The production is suitable for 5 years and over. Tickets cost from R175 to R750. Book through Computicket or Artscape Dial-A-Seat on 021 421 7695.
