The Siva Aalayam in Ruth Road, Rylands, distributed 250 hampers for the Hindu festival of Deepavali (Diwali), which is celebrated today, Wednesday October 18 and tomorrow, Thursday October 19.
The temple has run its Deepavali hamper project for the past 17 years, giving food and toiletries to the less fortunate in Rylands, Cravenby and Pelican Park.
Temple members rely on the support of the community to make the project possible.
They wished everyone a happy Deepavali, the festival which symbolises light over darkness and good over evil.
“May the divine light continue to shine within you,” they said.
