■ For a sensory experience of a different kind, head to the inaugural Cape Town Food and Wine Festival at the Westridge Gardens in Mitchell’s Plain on Sunday and Monday September 23 and 24 where you’ll get to experience some local culinary delights as prepared by chef Gavin Jethro and trainee chef José Jethro and taste and learn about wine from winemakers from renowned wine estates including Nederburg Wines and Drostdy Hof as well as emerging farmers from the Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute, which offers various courses in agriculture, including viticulture. Local winemaker Denzel Swartz, from Tafelsig who grew up on a wine estate, will also introduce his Son of the Soil range, which includes a chenin blanc, pinotage and sparkling wines. The programme for the Sunday includes a keynote address from Derek Hanekom, the Minister of Tourism, to launch the Mitchell’s Plain Tourism Route on the eve of Heritage Day, performances by The Rockets while the finals of the Premium Sports Bar karaoke competition will also be held.Other artists who will be performing include Loukmaan Adams, Salome, Vernon Castle and D’Low.
