■ The City Varsity Film Department students will be hosting a one-day film festival at the City Varsity School of Media and Creative Arts campus in Roeland Street, in the city centre on Saturday August 4 from noon until 5pm. The festival, in collaboration with current students, lecturers and alumni, aims to create a platform for young aspiring filmmakers, as well as for professional filmmakers to show their work and market their name. There will be screening of a collection of short films and ads with some members of each film present for Q and A sessions. The opening film will be presented by actor Irshaad Ally. There will be three sessions for the day and three individual tickets for each session. There will also be an all-day ticket available for those who would like to be a part of the journey from beginning to end. Snacks will be on sale at the venue. Tickets cost R30 a session, or R50 for an all day screening. The costs include free popcorn. For more information, email carlajanetemmers@gmail.com or shaakirahdam@gmail.com
