Zip Zap Circus is celebrating Women’s Month with a show called Journey Beyond from Friday August 17 to Sunday August 19 at the Artscape Theatre.

Zip Zap Circus is a not for profit social school working with children from all backgrounds.

Journey Beyond will highlight the talent of their girl performers. “While we can appreciate the strength of men performing jumps, push ups and pull ups, it is difficult to understand how strong women are when they make everything looks effortless,” says Laurence Estève, Zip Zap co-founder and CEO.

“Fifty-three percent of Zip Zap’s beneficiaries are female. Climbing 10 meters of soft fabric, hanging from one hand from a metal bar at eight meters, splitting, rolling, balancing elegantly, our ladies do this all with pointed toes and smiles; all while synchronised with the music,” says Estève.

“They make it seem like the most natural thing to do; until you see these girls train for hours, overcoming tiredness and relentlessly continuing and supporting each other with the goal to produce the most magical emotion for the audience to feel.”

Some of the performers taking part in Journey Beyond include Inathi Zungule in her first production, Saskia van Rensburg in her last production before studying politics in France and their youngest performer in the show, Talya Ellman.
