A charity art auction, Pieces for Paws, will be held at Atlantic Beach Country Club on Saturday March 16 to raise money for animal-welfare organisations.
Proceeds will support the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha, Wolwerivier Outreach Work (WOW) and the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds SANCCOB.
Shankar Puri, from Giving is Living, the non-profit organising the auction, said, more than 70 pieces donated by various artists would go under the hammer.
Mr Puri said that during workshops artists had helped children from Khayelitsha, Wolwerivier and Soweto work on pieces using trash, and those pieces would also be auctioned on Saturday.
The children volunteer at the animal-welfare organisations in their communities.
“They are volunteers and pioneers for future caring of the animals within the townships they live in,” said Mr Puri.
One of the workshops took place at artist Richard Scott’s house in Melkbosstrand where an artwork was crafted from pieces of metal and paint.
Another workshop was held at Mdzananda Animal Clinic with Table View based artist Jurgen Dunhofen.
Mr Puri said: “We’ve been really blessed with the amount of donations we’ve received. We’ve put in all the hard work into the auction now we just need people to attend.”
Tickets are R250 and include wine, food, live music and entertainment by magician and illusionist Russell Fox. Come Dine With Me SA’s Joey Burke will be the host. Tickets are available on Quicket. The auction is from 6pm to 10pm.
