* “This was taken at Rietvlei Sunset Hide in Cape Town early on an autumn morning during one of our walks. The Pied Kingfisher would bring up the fish that it caught and then beat them on the branch until soft enough to consume. One can see the scales and droplets of water in the air,” says reader Steve Williams.
