Construction of the bridge is expected to start by mid-February and expected to be finished by August according to the City of Cape Town. Mayco member for transport, Felicity Purchase, said they were currently carrying out works to improve the island-side riverbank and that work has started on the new retaining walls and slipway. “We will commence with the installation of new gabions on the edge of the embankment within the next two weeks”. The work on the new retaining walls is expected to be completed by the end of May she added.
