Car-jammer scam alert

A Table View man fell victim to a suspected car-jamming theft at a Sandown Road shopping centre.

Jared St Clair says he went for a haircut at Sandown Centre at 3pm on Friday November 8 and the next day noticed his laptop and other items missing from his car.

“My laptop bag with the laptop in it. My gym bag and work stuff all went missing. I traced back my steps trying to figure out what happened. I had no luck that day, and on Sunday morning, I went to the Sandown Centre where, by looking through video footage, I found out that I was a victim of a car-jamming scam.”

According to Table View police spokeswoman, Captain Adriana Chandler,Mr St Clair reported the theft of his MacBook laptop and hard drive, sunglasses and shoes, worth R29 900.

“The complainant found no forced entry to his vehicle, and it is suspected that a jamming device was used during the commission of the crime.”

Mr St Clair hopes the CCTV footage will lead to the arrest of the culprits and the recovery of his possessions.

“My work things are on there and it’s very difficult for me to retrieve all that I have lost,” he said.

Captain Chandler said motorists should remove all valuables from their cars, make sure the doors were locked and activate their alarms.
