Christmas lunch

Elizabeth Viljoen, Brooklyn

Unbelievably another year is nearly over. It seems like every year just disappears faster and faster.

Christmas is a time of giving, sharing and caring and when we try and open our hearts to those in distress, those who don’t have and to those who are battling in this life.

Every year for the last 11 years, I have put together a meal for the unfortunate in the Brooklyn, Maitland and Milnerton area, and once again I am looking for help from the community, to give to those in need.

Maybe spare that little item that you don’t need that someone else can benefit from, whether a tin of beans, a lettuce or a R10 bag of mince, even just one potato.

I would like to present a meal consisting of the following: A chicken/meat vegetable pasta; mince curry with rice; any vegetables, canned or fresh, such as potatoes, carrots, peas, baked beans, sweet corn; a trifle sponge pudding with jelly, Ideal milk, canned fruit, custard or even cake flour and eggs; and finally, some juice – any mix-a-drink. I am also collecting second-hand clothes and toys for the children.

This year the meal will be at the Moth Hall along Koeberg Road in Brooklyn, opposite the Holy Cross Convent School on Saturday December 24, at 2pm.

And to all readers, please put a present under your Christmas tree for your pets as they also deserve to be treated for this special day.
