City Law Enforcement officers seized a stash of fake alcohol in Dunoon on Friday last week following a tip-off, says the City.
Officers entered an abandoned building where they found sealed bottles resembling whisky and gin next to 25-litres of unknown chemicals, said mayoral committee member of safety and security JP Smith.
“Local SAPS and the Liquor Authority were summoned to the scene along with the City of Cape Town’s Safety and Security Investigation Unit and Strategic Information Management Services. No suspects were found at the premises, and an enquiry docket is to be registered by SAPS, and all exhibits were booked in at SAPS Milnerton,” said Mr Smith.
It appeared that genuine bottles of whisky and gin were being diluted with other chemicals, he said, noting that 96 bottles of gin and whisky and 150 litres of distilled alcohol had been seized.
