We are concerned about recent reports / assumptions that we are aligned with certain unregistered or unrecognised organisations who are merely promoting or advancing their own interests.
The Brooklyn Ysterplaat Neighbourhood Watch (BYNW), as a registered entity with the Western Cape Department of Community of Safety, wishes to reiterate the following:
We serve our community voluntarily and unbiasedly and without favour to any person, strictly as per the constitution of the Department of Community Safety and relevant laws.
As a crime prevention entity, we are committed to fully working with all law enforcement authorities as well as any legal and authorised bodies who share the same values and vision as we do.
Any media releases or statements made by any persons other than the public relations officer or an exco member are not sanctioned and, subsequently, not representative of the BYNW.
We continue to encourage all residents to become more proactive in the fight against crime.
Crime does not discriminate, it affects each and every one of us.
If we want increased policing resources than we need to justify the need for such. This is done by reporting each and every crime, regardless of how petty it might seem.
Without valid statistics, the SAPS cannot justify the need for more resources, and these will then be allocated to other areas.
We cannot continue to look the other way if we wish to make a visible difference and start attracting viable and sustainable investment.
But, all this is only achievable when everybody stands together and declares enough is enough.
Together we can make a difference. Let’s step up and do so.
