There is just one question I have with regard to this proposal: What does the property valuation have to do with who pays? (“Drought charge looms,” Tabletalk, December 6).
One property may be worth millions, but the owner has installed water-saving measures whereby he uses almost no municipal water, while another resident owns no property but uses a public tap where municipal water runs unchecked.
Any such knee-jerk decision is always a wrong one in hind-sight, so our dear mayor and the members of the council should engage their think-tanks (brains) a lot more before passing another stupid proposal into law.
For what it’s worth, my water-saving measures have resulted in us (two) using just around 1000 litres a month on average, with washing machine and dishwasher.
