Following our story about the Bothasig car guards who were dismissed from their jobs after years of service, letters came flooding in to Tabletalk, as readers expressed their anger and sympathised with the guards’ plight

Their years of service were deemed irrelevant by mall management, because they had no contract with the mall. But despite being cast aside, their voices were heard and it was clear that while some may not have given them a second glance as they dashed in and out of the shops, there were many whose lives had been touched by them.

The fact that so many readers have spoken about the guards in such glowing terms makes a mockery of the mall’s suggestions that they posed some sort of threat to customers.

Everyone deserves to have their voices heard and whether these guards had a contract or not, should not be reason enough for them to be dismissed in the manner in which they were.
