Grade 1 to 12 Elkanah House pupils gathered at the high school campus, in Sunningdale Drive, on Tuesday March 20, to celebrate the school’s 21st birthday.
Celebrations were opened by the high school drumline and the arrival of the principals from the different Elkanah campuses on Harley Davidsons. The children were then entertained by the Zip Zap Circus and ceremonies closed with the school war cry and school songs.
“Don’t just count your years, make your years count,” said Vivienne Jones, Elkanah House’s high school principal, quoting the Victorian novelist and poet, George Meredith.
She said his words rang true for Elkanah House as “they celebrate 21 years of learning beyond exams, living authentic lives and loving beyond self, the three pillars which define everything they do at school”.
The school’s footprint began in 1997 when the doors of the Blouberg campus were opened to 100 children, and over the years it has grown to four campuses of almost 1 400 pupils.
Ms Jones thanked all the staff for their dedication to delivering the school’s vision and helping pupils live up to its Latin motto, Carpe Diem (seize the day).
