After 30 years of food, laughter and fun-filled memories, a popular Italian restaurant in Bothasig has closed.
Rosati Restaurant, regarded by many as an institution in the area, was forced to call it quits after its leased premises were sold a few months ago.
Rosati’s owner Amanda Turner and her staff spent the last three days packing up – an emotionally taxing task for all.
Ms Turner bought Rosati in 2006 and flushed as she recalled her baptism of fire in the restaurant industry.
The first five years had been rocky, she said, but as time had gone by “customers became like family”.
Most of Ms Turner’s staff have been with her from the beginning. There were plenty of giggles as she pointed out who had always been late and who had always been expecting a baby.
It’s clear the restaurant’s closure is more than a lock on the door: it is the end of a family.
Although sad to close this chapter in her life, Ms Turner is happy to be able to spend more time with her ailing husband, Eugene. In 2013 he was diagnosed with stage-4 colon cancer.
“It had already spread to other organs and the doctors gave him 22 months to live,” said Ms Turner. Now four years later, she feels blessed to still have her husband of 35 years by her side.
“He’s had 22 operations so far. Doctors can’t understand why he is still alive,” she said.
Since word got out about
Rosati’s closure patrons have expressed their sadness on Facebook. Many reminisced about the great food and staff and commended Ms Turner on a job well done.
