Energy effecient

Peter Smulik, Rugby

I see the city council is seeking “sustainable energy solutions” and is asking the public for proposals.

The simplest and most efficient is not something its proposal document seems to attract, which is, in my opinion, to offer every homeowner a subsidy, similar to what Eskom did in the days they still had money, and encourage them to install a solar-power plant on the roof of their house.

And they should not only allow but encourage those with solar power installations to feed into the municipal grid as opposed to being penalised for such an installation, as is currently the case.

It seems a case of looking past the simple solutions to find expensive and complicated ones, while private, home installations come free of maintenance cost for the council.
