Failed hijacking leads to arrests

Police seized drugs and cash at a Site 5 home at the weekend.

Four men tried to hijack a car after robbing a Table View homeowner, say police.

The men took clothing and two cellphones worth R45 000 from the home on Saturday, while holding the owner at gunpoint, according to Table View police spokeswoman Captain Adriana Chandler.

The robbers then botched an attempt to hijack a car at a nearby police station.

Police arrested three suspects, aged 19, 20 and 27, and recovered the stolen clothing on the same day.

They are looking for a fourth man whom they believe has the gun and the stolen cellphones.

Meanwhile, police have arrested a suspected drug dealer in Site 5.

According to Table View police spokeswoman, Captain Adriana Chandler, the 43-year-old man was arrested on Sunday after police searched his home and found mandrax tablets, tik, dagga and a large sum of money.
