The cause of a fire that swept through the Table Bay Nature Reserve on Wednesday November 16 is still unknown, says Theo Layne from the City’s fire and rescue service. Firefighters responded to the fire just before 1pm on Wednesday and were still dealing with flare-ups on Thursday and Friday. Bothasig resident Mark Russell was passing through Gie Road on his scooter on Thursday when he stopped to rescue a Cape dwarf chameleon crossing the road. “It’s probably moving away because of the fire,” he told Tabletalk.
