Generation School Sunningdale is holding a fund-raiser for its middle-school pupil,Duncan Smuts, 14, who was diagnosed with a large germ-cell tumour in his abdomen in January.Duncan was diagnosed with type-1 diabetes at 3. He has managed to live with this complex health condition with the help of his trusted medical-alert dog, Honey. Honey gives him a heads-up when his blood sugar is too low (“Honey gives Duncan new lease on life,” Tabletalk, 23 November 2016).Duncan is undergoing chemotherapy to reduce the size of the tumour. Duncan’s Full Moon Run/Walk takes place at Meerendal Wine Estate on Monday April 30, at 6.30pm, participants need to arrive by 5.30pm to register. Entry for the 5km run or walk costs R70 for adults and R35 for children under 16. A 2km walk costs R50 for adults and R20 for children under 16.
