Liza Vivier, 43, of Table View, participated in the annual FNB Wines2Whales Chardonnay mountain-bike race to raise money for stray animals.
She has competed in the race since 2019, and this year she teamed up with Vernon Rudman, of Somerset West, to ride 191km and raise R30 000 for the Cape of Good Hope SPCA .
The three-day race, which has been held since 2009, started in Lourensford Wine Estate, on Friday November 5, meandered over the slopes of the Helderberg mountains and ended in Onrus, in Hermanus, on Sunday November 7.
Ms Viviers said her love for animals had driven her to take part.
“The SPCA has not only been a shelter for domestic animals but wildlife too,” she said.
A second SPCA team that took part in the event, Viv Schulze and David Mitchley, raised R23 900.
