Two new Melkbosstrand police constables had barely started their shift on Friday July 29 when they found themselves pursuing a stolen car in a high-speed chase on the R27.
The officers spotted a suspicious car on the N7 heading towards Moorreesburg.
When they tried to stop the red VW Polo it sped off, but the chase ended after the driver tried to lose the police in a field 15km outside of Moorreesburg and lost control of the car.
The four men in the vehicle were arrested for being in possession of a stolen car and a burglary tool.
“It was found that the vehicle was stolen during a house robbery in Bothasig which occurred on Wednesday July 20 at 5.30pm. Inside the vehicle a crowbar was found inside the vehicle,” said Constable Debbie Alard, of the Melkbosstrand police.
The men, aged between 22 and 42, appeared in Cape Town Magistrate’s court on Monday.
