Hijackings on the increase

There has been a series of car hijackings in Dunoon and Brooklyn in the past week.

Two gunmen hijacked a man as he sat in his car in Siyabonga Street, Dunoon, on Tuesday March 21, at about 9.30pm.

The hijackers pointed their guns at the man and forced him out of his white Polo Vivo before speeding off in the vehicle.

Table View police spokeswoman Captain Adriana Chandler said no shots were fired and the victim was not injured.

On Thursday March 23, a man was parking a company car in Xhalanga Street, Dunoon, when three armed men forced him to surrender it.

Just one hour later on the same night, a motorist stopped his car on the corners of Kings Road and Foridon Drive, in Brooklyn, when two men with guns approached him. They forced him out of the car, jumped in and sped off. No shots were fired and the victim was unharmed.

No arrests have been made.

Police have urged motorists to stay alert and keep their car doors locked and windows closed.

“Do not argue with your assailants; memorise a description of the suspects and
provide these details to the investigating officer,” said Captain Chandler.

On Wednesday March 22, three suspects, two with guns, threatened the owner of a cellphone shop in Democracy Way, Joe Slovo. They took cellphones and then fled on foot without firing a shot.

Police arrested a 37-year-old Table View man for stealing fuel in Parklands on Tuesday March 21.
