Ten people were arrested for taking part in an illegal street racing in Sable Road on the N1 on Sunday May 5.
Ghost Squad members in collaboration with Metro police and the South African Police Service (SAPS) shut down the race and suspended 30 vehicles for various transgressions and modifications.
Traffic service’s Richard Coleman said: “Ten people were arrested on various charges. One of the four drunk drivers was more than six times over the legal limit.”
In January, the City put measures in place to curb drag racing following an illegal street racing incident that took place on the N1 outgoing at the Sable Road off-ramp which left the driver of the BMW involved in the crash seriously injured.
Authorities want illegal street racers to apply for an event permit if there’s a strip of road that’s available and to follow all the regulations.
