With more than 18 000 Instagram followers, it’s safe to say dancing sensation Kayla Saikonda is a force to be reckoned with.
Only 9 years old, Kayla has taken social media by storm with her off-the-wall freestyle dance moves. Whether it’s hip hop, Afropop or gqom, the Milnerton Primary School pupil slays on each clip and she’s only getting started.
On Friday she released her debut single Run on music streaming platforms. “I want to do it all,” says Kayla determinedly.
At 3 her family enrolled her with a casting agency where she started modelling and doing ads. It has all helped to build her confidence she says but dancing still remains her first love.
Managed by her brother Dobson Saikonda, Kayla takes her career as an entertainer seriously and doesn’t mind putting in the leg work. “We shot the music video for Run at a location in Sunset Beach from 8am to 8pm,” said Dobson.
He first saw his sister’s potential when she would dance to Nicki Minaj songs as a toddler. “She couldn’t speak but she would dance,” he said.
Dobson films her dance clips in different locations and the two admit they have been kicked out of shops while performing but that it’s all worth it.
