Joe Slovo Park is in shock after a 28-year-old woman was shot and killed there last week.
The killing of Gcobisa Mabija is the latest in a series of murders and other violent crime across Joe Slovo and Phoenix and shows the need for “police intervention”, says a resident who did not want to be identified as he fears for his safety.
“The blood of our youth in this community is on the hands of the police because they have no intention of getting rid of the gangsters,” he said.
Ms Mabija’s family declined to comment, saying “the investigation was tense”.
Police are investigating the motive for the killing, but there have been no arrests, according to Milnerton police spokesperson Captain Nopaya Madyibi.
According to a family member, Ms Mabija attended Buren High School and studied human resources at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) from 2015 to 2017.
She worked as a sales consultant at various clothing stores and recently became a sales associate at a jewellery store.
On social media, her friends expressed their anger and shock at her killing and sent their condolences to her family.
There will be a memorial service at the Joe Slovo Park Community Hall on Saturday at 4pm.
