A Dunoon man has been given a 10-year prison sentence for robbery.
Carlos Vilakzi, 22, who was convicted of robbing two women waiting at a Sandown Road bus stop on February 18 last year – was sentenced on Friday February 3, according to police spokeswoman Captain Adriana Chandler.
Armed with a knife, Vilakzi had grabbed a handbag belonging to one of the victims and a cellphone from the other. One of the women had been holding a baby in her arms.
He was caught after a passer-by saw what was happening and chased him.
Table View police station commander Colonel Dirk Vosloo welcomed the sentence, while Milnerton cluster commander Major General Aneeqah Jordaan said Vilakzi would not have been caught if it had not been for the member of the public who had come to the women’s aid.
