A 27-year-old Langa man was arrested on Thursday January 12 for allegedly breaking into a parked vehicle at Blouberg Beach and stealing a wallet and cellphone, say police.

The vehicle owner was preparing to go for a surf when two women at the beach asked if he could take a photograph of them, said Table View police spokeswoman Captain Adriana Chandler.

“The surfer declined and made his way into the ocean,” she said.

He then noticed the same two women standing at his vehicle with a man who then smashed a window, dove into the car and took his wallet and cellphone.

The surfer flagged down a Metro police vehicle while Table View police officers patrolling the beachfront arrested the suspect.

The two women could not be found for questioning and had not been linked to the case, said Captain Chandler.

The police have urged the public not to leave valuables visible in their vehicles.
