A R71 million upgrade to the R27 and M19 near Melkbosstrand is nearing completion.
According to Byron La Hoe from the Department of Transport and Public Works, the project to reseal and upgrade 27km of the R27 and 8km of the M19 near Melkbosstrand should be finished by the end of the year.
The roads, used by up to 12 000 vehicles daily, had last been resealed in 1997.
“Intersection upgrades, repairs to drainage structures, refurbishment of bridges, and double-sealing of the M19 have been completed. The R27 is currently being double-sealed, and there are lane closures where work is under way,” said Mr La Hoe.
Some delays would be inevitable, he said.
