Millies wins high school jam

Milnerton High School has won the 2017 High School Jam.

The show was held in GrandWest’s Grand Arena on Saturday August 19, and Milnerton went up against nine other Western Cape schools.

Milnerton High School’s drama teacher Laura Bosman was full of praise for the pupils.

“All the credit goes to the kids,” she said. “They brought it! They slogged away so very hard and for so long. They brought their energy, their passion and heart on the stage, and they are the reason we won.”

Milnerton High School, or “Millies” as they’re affectionately known, beat off stiff competition from rivals and defending champions Elsies River High School to pocket the R50 000 first prize.

The competition is open to high schools throughout the province and encourages them to compete through music and dance while gaining exposure in the entertainment industry.

Karen Burt, from Planet Productions, the organisers of High School Jam, said it gave youngsters the chance to have fun and fulfil their dreams.

“The idea behind the competition is to provide interactive learning experiences for all the students and schools involved, ultimately unifying cultures , schools , families and teenagers all through the performing arts,” said Ms Burt.

Competitions like these are a great launching pad for successful careers in the entertainment industry. The Voice SA winner Craig Lucas also participated in the High School Jam when he was at Elsies River High School.

People came out in their numbers to support their schools and KFM did a live broadcast from the venue. The station’s Carl Wastie was one of the judges.
