Milnerton Lions help keep Dunoon preschoolers fed

Vincent Jaxa and his wife Nomalizo Jaxa run the Takalani Educare in Dunoon.

The Milnerton Lions Club is helping to feed 100-odd children at a Dunoon preschool.

Takalani Educare director Vincent Jaxa says he is grateful to the Milnerton Lions Club for the regular meals they provide.

Milnerton Lions Club president Christiana Groenewoud started the feeding project in April 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. She said she had wanted to do something after noticing an increase in the number of jobless people begging for food during lockdown.

“I decided to start cooking at my house and feed the people I would see on the side of the road begging, close to where I live,” she said.

The Milnerton Lions Club then focused on helping preschools, including Takalani Educare, and some 650 children are fed by the project daily.

Mr Jaxa said people could support the feeding project by contacting the Milnerton Lions Club or visiting the educare.
