Net closes on burglary suspects

Table View police arrested five suspected burglars after setting a trap for them on a freeway.

An armed response officer radioed the police on Monday, at 3pm, to report that he was driving behind a grey Toyota Avanza fitting the description of a car involved in a series of burglaries in Table View.

The officer told the police he was following the car through Parklands and headed for the N7.

According to Table View police spokeswoman Captain Adriana Chandler officers sprang into action and set up a roadblock near the N7’s Malinbongwe turn-off.Then they waited.

Police stopped the Avanza as it approached, and, aided by neighbourhood watch mem-
bers and armed re-
sponse officers, they caught the suspects, aged 23 to 33, before they could flee.

Inside the car, police found items, which were later identified as stolen by a Sunridge resident whose Zeeland Crescent home had been burgled earlier that same day.

The suspects are due to appear in court today, Wednesday March 29, on hijacking and housebreaking charges.
