Road users stuck in early morning traffic on Marine Drive, Milnerton, on Wednesday June 22, witnessed this police officer engaged in conversation on a cellphone while driving an official vehicle, in contravention of traffic laws. She turned off in the direction of Milnerton police station, and seemed oblivious to the stares of passing traffic. Milnerton police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Daphne O’Reilly said Philadelphia SAPS station commander Captain Frederick Rossouw, confirmed the officer is a clerk there, who had been on a training course. “The National Road Traffic Ordinance Regulation 308A prohibits the use of communication devices while driving.
“Captain Rossouw has confirmed that the member will be interviewed and disciplinary steps will be instituted against the offence,” she said.
