Thousands braved the rain last week to vote in the sixth national and provincial election on Wednesday May 8.
At the Kidz Buzz Educare in Summer Greens, 19-year-old Sesona Simelela voted for the first time and said that he did so because it was important for him to exercise his right to vote. He said young people had a big part to play in shaping the countrys future.
Health MEC Dr Nomafrench Mbombo cast her ballot at the Blouberg library last week Wednesday. When she arrived, she was greeted and welcomed by the presiding officer, Petrus Bouwer.
At Sinenjongo High School, presiding officer Bukelwa Plaatjies said there was a lot of optimism in the air. Teboho Tiro, Mpho Lesenyeho and Molefi Mothaolo from Joe Slovo said they would like to see a change in their community where unemployment is rife.
Dr Mbombo said South Africa had come a long way for citizens to be able to exercise their votes.
