Louis van Wyk, City of Cape Town Milnerton Lagoon manager, and Thozama Notshati, City reserve employee, found this Net Algae at the Milnerton Racecourse Conservation Area. The species was identified as Hydrodictyon africanum after Louis uploading his observation on iNaturalist app. It is believed that this species has not been seen for about 100 years.
