Tributes have poured in for a prominent Summer Greens community leader who died of a stroke at the weekend.
Karen Visagie was a member of the Summer Greens Neighbourhood Watch (SGNW) and vice chairwoman of the community’s residents’ association.
Ratepayers’ groups and neighbourhood watches from around Milnerton have paid tribute to her on social media. Ms Visagie was a former chairwoman of the Milnerton Community Police Forum (CPF) and was also part of the Summer Greens Business Forum and chairwoman of the Summer Greens Development Forum.
“She was always willing to serve in any role that would benefit her neighbours and friends,” Milnerton CPF said in a statement.
The Richwood Neighbourhood Watch also sent its
condolences. SGNW members held a candlelit march to Ms Visagie’s Summer Greens home on Monday night. She was described as a bubbly person and someone who could speak the legs off a donkey.
Her elder sister, Rene Ferreira, said Ms Visagie had been a happy child growing up as the youngest of six girls. “Our father passed away when Karen was only five so my mother spoilt her. She was so naughty, but very happy.
“We grew up in a home where we were taught to always give to others and this is where Karen’s good nature came from,” said Rene with tears in her eyes.
SGNW chairman Reagan Croeser said Ms Visagie had been one of the first members of the neighbourhood watch.
“She was never angry and always had a smile on her face. She was genuinely a good person,” he said.
She will be cremated and her ashes will be at her memorial service at the Bothasig Baptist Church, near Bosmansdam High School, on Saturday July 14.
