Armed robbers invaded a Phoenix man’s home on Wednesday night May 17.
The man had heard someone trying to force his door open at about 8.20pm, said Constable Debbie Alard, of the Melkbosstrand police.
When he opened the door, three men burst in. One had a gun and the other two had knives.
“They covered his face as they searched his house. He then screamed for help and neighbours came to assist him. The suspects managed to run away. One suspect was apprehended and arrested by the community and handed over to the police,” said Constable Alard.
A cellphone, cash and bank cards were among the items stolen.
Police found a crowbar at the scene.
A 25-year-old man was arrested for armed robbery after he allegedly hit a man in the face and took his bottle of whiskey.
The incident happened in Usasaza Street, Dunoon, on Friday May 12, at 8.10pm, said Constable Alard.
“According to the complainant, he and his friends were coming from a tavern where he bought liquor. As the complainant was walking home they were followed by four unknown males. One of the suspects had a firearm and the other three had knives. The suspect then hit the complainant with the firearm in his face and took his bottle of whiskey.”

“On further investigation it was found that the suspect had an imitation firearm,” said Constable Alard.
