Zoe Prinsloo, a Grade 11 pupil at Edgemead High, was recently accepted to attend the first UN Youth Climate Summit in New York City on Saturday September 21. The historic event will be a platform for young leaders who are driving climate action to showcase their solutions at the United Nations. It will be the largest gathering of young climate leaders at the UN in history. More than 7 000 young people between the ages of 18 to 29 applied to attend the Youth Climate Summit. Zoe was one of 500 young people from around the world selected to attend the summit. At the end of June Zoe attended a week-long environmental camp called the Eden Festival of Action hosted by Greenpop, where she helped plant 5 000 trees. She is president of her schools Interact Club; media liaison for the African Climate Alliance and owner of her very own eco-friendly business called Save a Fishie, making her the youngest distributor of eco-friendly products in South Africa. Blouberg International School celebrated Book Week by using South African childrens book authors as their theme. Pupils decorated classrooms and dressed up for the theme. Table View High School has selected their new prefect body for 2020. Milnerton High School Grade 11 pupil, Gina de Klerk, has been included in the Western Province athletics cross-country team that will represent the province at the South African National Championships in Pretoria on September 7. Gina is currently the under-17 Western Province cross country champion. CBC St John Grade 7 pupil Adam Wilcock recently won gold for his investigation titled An Unwise Crowd at the Cape Town Science Expo at UCT. Edgemead High Schools Interact committee hosted a beach clean-up at Milnerton Lagoon Beach last Saturday along with Bosmansdam High School and Protea Heights Academy. Thirty-nine bags of beach litter were collected and taken to be recycled. Blouberg International Schools pupils and teaching staff staged their version of the Little Shop of Horrors last week.
