Bloubergrant High School staff and pupils held a peaceful demonstration on the school grounds, on Friday last week, against the abuse suffered by teachers at the hands of pupils.
It was in response to an incident on Thursday September 13, when a 24-year-old teacher was stabbed to death by a pupil inside a classroom in Zeerust in the North West.
Bloubergrant High School principal Malcolm Pedro said they had had an incident recently in which a Grade 9 boy had slapped a young female teacher at the school.
“We feel that we are not getting as much support as we should be receiving from authorities,” he said. “Hence, we took it upon ourselves, as the staff and pupils, to show our dismay at the onslaught on educators.”
The staff and the pupils stood on the school grounds facing the R27 displaying placards against the abuse of teachers.
Mr Pedro called for all parents, churches, police and schools to work together and solve the social ills faced by our society.
