Search for wreck

Pascale d’Offay snapped this picture of diggers starting the search for De Haarlem shipwreck on Sunset Beach on Thursday February 1. The lost Dutch trading ship ran aground in Table Bay in 1647. Last year Dr Bruno Werz, a former Dutch Navy diver, was granted “limited probing and excavation” at several sites, including areas near the Dolphin Beach Hotel, along Bloubergstrand, close to Sunset Beach and the parking area at Rietvlei (“One step closer to De Haarlem,” Tabletalk, 2017).
