Seniors’ club seeks new members

The club held a braai in celebration of its fifth anniversary.

The West Coast chapter of the Cape Jewish Seniors’ Association is calling on more seniors to join the club.

The branch was established five years ago and members meet four times a month at the Norton Square club house in Table View where they have outings, art classes, watch DVDs, listen to guest speakers and more.

Melanie van Emmenes runs the West Coast branch and describes the club as a “vibrant and interactive environment”.

“We strive to meet the educational, spiritual, social and entertainment needs of our members and offer activities to encourage members to form new friendships and support systems,” said Ms Van Emmenes.

“We help to alleviate loneliness and isolation as a number of our members’ children and grandchildren have emigrated to other countries.

“We provide a space for them to socialise and to enjoy the company of others. We encourage everyone to retain their independence.”

Ms Emmenes is also a qualified social worker and says the club offers professional counselling and support to members as well as family counselling.

She said although the club, which accepts members from 55 and up, was a Jewish-based association, all denominations were welcome.

“Our aim is to keep members active and to be part of a warm, welcoming and friendly community.”

The club meets at Norton Square club house on the first and third Thursday of each month at 11.30am and on the second and fourth Thursday at 10.30am. For more information call, Ms Emmenes at 021 434 9691 or 074 405 5186 or email her at westcoast@cjsa.org.za
