Teeing off for a good cause

With the help of the local community and businesses, Melkbosstrand Neighbourhood Watch raised close to R200 000 at their annual golf day for the erection and maintenance of Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras in the area.

The watch says the existing number of cameras is insufficient to be really effective, consequently some upgrading is required in addition to new ones being installed in strategic positions around the village.

Golf day event co-ordinator, Geoff Hodges, says the annual event, held at Atlantic Beach Golf Club on March 3, was a resounding success.

“We blew our target away. Our goal was to raise R100 000 and our final net achievement was a massive R187 000.”

He said the most amazing part was the support and generosity shown by local businesses who donated items for the auction, golfers’ prizes, sponsorship of holes and dining tables. This was supported by members of the community who made cash donations including a very generous single donation of R50 000. “We also give huge thanks to all the players who took part on the day and all who attended the auction dinner in the evening, without whose attendance the event could not take place.”

Next year’s golf day has already been booked at Atlantic Beach Golf Club for Friday March 9. For details on this or on joining Melkbosstrand Neighbourhood Watch, call Mr Hodges on 072 875 0397, or email membership@
