Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula yesterday announced his decision to amend the Public Transport Directions in order to accommodate social grant beneficiaries.

From today until Friday April 3, buses and taxis will be allowed to operate from 5am to 8pm  so that people can collect their sociaL grants.

However, buses and taxis are also urged to continue exercising social distancing during this period.

Grant recipients are required to carry their identity documents and South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) cards when travelling on public transport.

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town has called for kindness and consideration when people leave their homes to collect their social grants.

They also urged people to make their way home once they’ve bought basic necessities and medication.

This as the country observes Day 4 of the national lockdown which is aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).
