Two arrested over death of homeless man in Table View

A man and women were arrested in Table View for culpable homicide after a homeless man was killed after being hit by a car on Sunday.

According to Table View police spokeswoman Captain Adriana Chandler, an armed-response officer encountered the man and the woman in Blaauwberg Road.

“He noticed the woman sitting on the pavement holding her head. He went to enquire, and the pair alleged that they were nearly hijacked,” said Captain Chandler.

The officer alerted the police after noticing extensive damage to the front of the vehicle – its bumper was gone and there was evidence of what appeared to be blood splatter.

Captain Chandler said police heard a short while later that a destitute man had been knocked down and killed on Plattekloof bridge. “A bumper, believed to belong to the vehicle in question, was found at the scene,” said Captain Chandler.

The man and woman were taken to the station for questioning and the vehicle has been booked in for forensic evidence.

The case is being investigated by Bothasig SAPS.
