Police have arrested a 24-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman in connection with the abduction of an elderly Parklands couple.
The couple, both in their 80s, were picking flowers near Big Bay on Saturday December 17 when a man and woman, both armed with knives, accosted them, demanding they hand over their valuables, said Table View police spokeswoman Captain Adriana Chandler.
The perpetrators bundled the couple into a car and drove them to the victims’ home at a Parklands complex believing they would be able to get a cellphone there.
When a security guard at the complex approached the car, the elderly man shouted for help and the car sped off with the couple still inside.
The security guard contacted the Table View police who issued an alert to other stations to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the couple were driven to various ATMs in Delft and Parow, which were all closed.
“It was in Parow, that the police observed the vehicle in a parking area of a mall and arrested the suspects and rescued the elderly couple who were both unharmed but traumatised,” said Captain Chandler.
