Vaccine boosters available

People are being urged to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Covid-19 vaccine booster shots are available to those eligible.

If you got the Pfizer jab more than six months ago or the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, more than two months ago, you can now get a booster shot, the City of Cape Town said in a press release.

The City has urged eligible people to report to their nearest vaccination site as soon as possible.

“There is no need for re-registration. Just bring along your identity document and the vaccination card you received during your first vaccination. And please encourage relatives and friends to do the same,” said the City’s mayoral committee member for community services and health, Patricia Van der Ross.

“More importantly, this is also a renewed call to unvaccinated persons to get in line for their vaccination. If nothing else, this fourth wave has proven the efficacy of vaccines in minimising the risk of severe illness. It is important to safeguard yourself and your loved ones, and vaccination is the best protection we have.”

If you are recovering from Covid-19, you will need to wait 30 days for either vaccination or a booster shot.

“It is also important to note that, even if you have been vaccinated, that you need to continue abiding by the non-pharmaceutical measures of mask-wearing, physical distancing, avoiding crowds and gatherings in poorly ventilated spaces as well as regular sanitising as you can still contract and spread Covid-19,” Ms Van der Ross said.
