■ Girl Guides Cape West hosted a Mandela Day vetkoek challenge yesterday where they made 6 700 vetkoeks in honour of the 67 years Nelson Mandela spent in prison. The challenge took place at the Pinelands Guide Hall in Pinelands and Girl Guides Cape West members across the Cape came to do their 67 minutes. The vetkoek was donated to charities and organisations across the province throughout the day. Vetkoek was also sold for R2 and for every one sold, one was donated. “We are not only filling a lot of hungry tummies but we also raised awareness of guiding as an organisation, that strives to not only help others, but to help guide girls to a confident future,” said Tanya Prinsloo from the Bothasig Rangers.
